Join the Registry

The Big Medium Artist Registry is connected to our Creative Standard Artist Membership. By joining this community, you will have a year round presence on the Artist Registry and have access to professional development programming and resources, exhibition opportunities, and new ways of connecting to fellow artists and art audiences.

While Big Medium’s Artist Membership is regularly $50 a year, in response to the pandemic, we will waive the membership fees of those who would like to join for free. We believe that making our platform and resources free and accessible for artists is especially important during this time. Both waived and paid memberships will be effective for one year.

In addition to a presence on the platform, this membership offers Austin artists a way to learn from a community of their peers and community partners, while sharing their work with a wide-ranging audience of collectors, designers, business owners, and art enthusiasts.

Creative Standard Artists Members receive the following benefits:

  • Included in the Artist Registry (if accepted)
  • Early and free access to professional development workshops
  • Email notifications from Big Medium with local, regional, and national artist opportunities
  • Promotion of your exhibitions via Creative Standard Monthly Email
  • Austin Studio Tour catalogs mailed to you (if not an artist in that tour)
  • Invitation to members only previews in the Big Medium Gallery

*Some benefits subject to change but will be available if conditions allow. For more info about Creative Standard visit bigmedium.org/creativestandard.

Selection Process

Big Medium will be evaluating applications with the following criteria in mind.

  • Is the artist based in Austin or the surrounding area? For now, the platform is limited to artists living or working within a 30 mile radius of the city.
  • Does the artist have a body of current and evolving work that indicates a high level of dedication to their artistic practice? And is that body of work well documented and presented professionally?
  • Does the artist make work within the range of mediums provided in the application?
  • In line with Big Medium’s mission, we will be prioritizing diversity to create an inclusive and representative platform that celebrates creatives from a variety of communities and disciplines.

Art Sales

How Sales Work
  • Big Medium will upload works submitted by artists through the registry application to our website and manage the transaction of sales, retaining a 25% commission. Not all works must be for sale.
  • Artists may have up to 6 artworks on the site (future phases will allow more images), and will have the opportunity to replace sold works on a monthly basis. If a piece sells outside of the registry platform, artists must notify Big Medium immediately so that we can update the work’s status accordingly.
  • Big Medium encourages conversation around art and will do our best to facilitate dialogue between artists and interested parties, however any coordination around sales, including inquiries and negotiations are the responsibility of the artist.
Getting the work to the purchaser
  • When a work sells, the artist is responsible for coordinating pick up, delivery, or shipping of the work. Once accepted to the registry.
Artist Fund
  • 5% of the 25% commission collected by Big Medium will go directly to supporting Austin artists through our Artist Relief Fund. Learn more about the fund at bigmedium.org/artistreflieffund.
