About the Artist

Born in Dallas, 1961, Nancy Wallace Brown lives and works in Austin, Texas. Brown's artwork, from the early 1980's through today, reveals an affinity for conceptual abstraction and color. Brown is current undertaking probes the experience of finding resonance within the relationship of light and color to form. Brown works in acrylic on canvas, mixed media collage, graphite on paper, sketchbooks, and large-scale installation of thousands of tiny parts pinned to the wall with straight pins. Most recently, Brown cites the early 20th century artist and educator Joseph Albers as a primary source of influence. Brown's projects speak to that which can only be phrased using repetition, motif and form but never without an inquiry into color theory.

She earned an MFA in studio art from the Meadows School of the Arts and BFA in drawing and painting from CVAD at UNT.  The Dallas Contemporary, UTD Haggerty Gallery, Hawn Gallery, The Dallas Art Fair, The 500X Gallery, Mighty Fine Arts Gallery, Axis Gallery, Texas State University are a few of the many places Brown's artwork has been shown.
