I was born in Arcata, California, 1973. My dad served in Vietnam and then was a bank manager, Mom was a public teacher for 40 years and sister is also a teacher. Growing up in rural Humboldt County known as the 'Lost Coast' was indescribably beautiful and mysterious.
As an undiagnosed ADD child of 7, I discovered the magical sport of swimming. Intense, long, meditative exercise was the perfect intervention. Until the age of 22 I played, trained and raced in the water 50 weeks per year. Drawing, reading, playing drums and making of all sorts filled-in my foundation.
At The University of California, Davis, my double bachelor's degrees in Studio Art and Sociology set me on a teaching path. After 18 years of coaching 6 to 7 days per week I became known as a positive, creative, even occasionally called an artist of teaching swimming. Visual aids like figurative drawings on demand and an instructional flip book I published with my wife were hallmarks of that skill set. I began painting full-time in 2012. Most of my creative output now happens in a home studio. We have two children and have loved Austin since 2005.
