About the Artist
RF. Alvarez in an Austin-based artist who currently exhibits with Uprise Art in New York and Martin & Brockett in Los Angeles. He received his BA from Wesleyan University and in 2011 and has worked full time as an artist since 2018.
I am interested in the act of artifact-making. My work draws from disparate cultural references to aim at a blended visual style that is distinctly human. I often works in materials like raw canvas, earth pigments, and handmade papers to further this narrative. These materials, along with an abstracted and flattened style, explore themes of desire, belonging, and safety among others. What results is a depiction of an Eden-like world that draws juxtapositions to our own.
