My work examines how the popularity of social media shapes the perception and behavior of ourselves, others, and objects around us. My most recent work experiments with Augmented Reality. By creating augmented abstractions, I'm questioning how people interact with the work when it's taken outside of their familiar experiences of social AR as beauty filters, cutesy animals, and branded experiences. When creating an augmented filter, I use a mix of recognizable 3D objects with abstract shapes and arrange them in digital collages. I create three different types of augmented experiences. The first places augmented objects on human forms like a face or body. The second places digital elements in a 360 space using the rear camera. The third tracks physical objects like paintings or sculptures and adds interactive elements to them.
I enable viewers to use my work as a tool to experience my point of view and also interpret and remix it as their own. I've noticed that people view and use my work in different ways based on their geographical location, cultural norms, and social media behaviors. It's opening up a new form of creative collaboration between myself, the work, and the viewer.
