Ripples through the Universe
2019, Acrylic on canvas, 32 x 54 in.
Inspired by music, Jean's paintings draw on ancient roots and drum up modern beats. Movement, high chroma, and rich symbolism mark her style—a soulful awareness on canvas. From symphony to blues and jazz, her paintings have been featured at festivals, on CD covers, and in magazines all over the globe.
Ask her where she's from and she'll say "everywhere"—born in Japan, she embraces the nomadic lifestyle of military life and job transfers. No matter where she lands, the local culture and history come alive through people connections; their stories, cuisine, music and art. Jean graduated from The University of Kansas with degrees in Studio Art and Art Education. In addition to her dedicated studio practice, she has worked in theater design, technical writing and education. She is the Curator of Round Rock's Downtowner Gallery and a docent at the Blanton Museum of Art.
Recent studios have been a barn, a balcony, a warehouse and a boat. Painting and sketching are Jean's way to capture experiences. Just like a great song, moments are fleeting, but the melody remains with us. Her paintings capture that slice of time and spread ripples of positive energy.
