Puppy Love (Kisses for Thania)
2017, Acrylic on canvas, 30 x 24 in.
My interests are women's issues, pets, politics, and what it means to find healing in life. But most of all, I'm an art lover of all genres. So, it was a natural thing for me to want to get into art. I find the creative process, that spontaneity that comes after time spent preparing to make art and then learning how to fail in the creative journey is where my growth as an artist and healing as a person happens. I got attracted to making art to process feelings of personal loss, come to terms with social issues and to experiment with diverse ideas. I am a member of the Creative Arts Society and Neoteric Art Austin art groups. I have made two series of paintings about women; the first was about "Women and Their Pets", the expressiveness and spontaneity of unconditional love. The second was about "Women in Transition" which explored women living through this time of political upheaval in America. My third series is "The Language of Color" and is a spontaneous exploration of how color speaks to our emotions and feelings. Currently, I am working on an untitled series that reflects the hope behind upheaval.
