About the Artist

Emily Hoyt-Weber's abstract sculptural interventions of linear geometric compositions use color, light, and illusion and require physical movement by viewers to activate the work. Her welded steel structures are painted to erase the materiality of the object and incorporate themselves into their surrounding interior or exterior environments. Her fragile, ephemeral forms visually speak to observing equally fragile cycles of emergence in the outdoor environments that she is a part of. Most recently she has created a series of abstract interior drawings in space inspired by resiliency. She is on the Houston Art Alliance Artist Roster for 2018-2020 and the Austin Cultural Arts division local pre-qualified artist pool 2018-2020. In 2017, she received a public art grant to realize her work Double Arch, a large-scale sculpture attached to native plantings that framed seasonal changes in a local park. She holds an MFA from Mills College and a BA in Literature and Studio Art from Humboldt State University. She is an alumni of Pump Project Studios and a teacher at The Contemporary Austin Art School. She has shown locally in Austin, TX, South Texas, and Northern California.
