Born in San Antonio, the former IT Specialist was a pencil 'doodler' all her life, but in 2009 changed direction and started painting, with special focus on portraits in oil and pastel. In the last 10 years she's done nearly 150 commissioned portraits in a variety of media, of people and pets! She is inspired by drawing and painting as a way to learn more about anything—the endless variations of the human face, the strength and movement of life, the graceful lines and complexity of constructed things. She is endlessly fascinated by living things with faces, how we generally have two eyes and a nose and mouth, yet exhibit almost infinite variety and uniqueness! She also 'nature journals' as a way to expand her passion for birds, geology, plants, and wild places, as well as astronomical sketching as part of her love and pursuit of astronomy, sculpts in clay, carves rocks, builds models in paper and from kits, and works with found and discarded wire, metal, and glass. To Jamie, art is a connection to all that is within and beyond our daily human experience.
