About the Artist

BIOGRAPHY: I was born in Brownsville, Texas. I am 76 years old. After high school graduation, I came to Austin to attend the University of Texas. I graduated in 1968 . In 1970 my wife and I moved permanently to Austin. I worked at Brackenridge Hospital and also for Texas Rehabilitation Commission.Painting was, initially, my primary medium, but I became interested in sculpture through a friend, Mrs.Dorle Lekisch . Mrs. Lekisch , a stone sculptor in her own right, was the one who inspired me to start carving stone. Around 1993, I started taking sculpture classes at the Ney Conservatory on 45th street. Around 1996. I joined the Texas Society of Sculptors and eventually became president of that organization (2000-2001). I have taken art classes at the Austin Community College and the University of Texas (1998-2000). In Sept of 2000 and 2001, I studied stone carving in Pietrasanta, Italy.
