About the Artist

After receiving a degree in architecture Alexander realized sitting in front of computers wasn't for him. In 2014 he moved to Harlem to live a life of prayer and service to the poor with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. This transformative experience led him to buy a camper van and wander the country. Seeking out craftsmen to learn from and people living in intentional community. After arriving in Austin he parked the van and stayed. Working as an apprentice for Shota Yamaguchi for a year he then went to the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship 9-month program in Maine and returned to Austin, which had quickly become his home, to open his own shop under the name Alessandro & Maria. He currently works as a member of the communal woodshop ToolMarksATX located on E. Cesar Chavez.
