Hibiscus
2019, Watercolor on paper, watercolor crayon, 6 x 7 in.
I am a painter living in Austin. I view myself as a contemporary watercolor artist, I paint flowers because I see them as the opposite of a memento mori—the flowers reflect the stars and I like to sit and practice what I call flower gazing and then paint them. I also paint contemporary painting that are abstract but the colors the way the painting lands are still organic. I am also a mom and grew up in South Africa, Mexico and the states.
