Aria Brownell graduated with a BFA in Painting from SUNY Purchase College in New York in 2015. She is currently living and working in Austin, Texas. She is a figurative oil painter with a studio at Contracommon Gallery in Bee Cave near Austin, Texas. She paints from photographs she has taken to portray her own female perspective of everyday situations like moments in time acting as keys to describing herself. Touching on small instances of contact, mischief, comfort, grief, and familiarity, she creates a myth behind a cast of painted characters. In 2020, she has shown work at Contracommon in Bee Cave, Texas, The Center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene, Texas, and virtually for Visionary Art Collective, Saint Maison Online Gallery, the Irving Arts Center, and Big Medium’s Austin Studio Tour.
