About the Artist
Austin based painter, Johanna Heilman, has spent the last 22 years painting the world around her. She is currently interested in exploring themes of aging, illness, and overcoming the limits of the human body.
My work is centered around the experience of aging and coping with chronic illness. What does it mean to shift forms, to adjust to new expectations about your own body? To move through life as a woman no longer young, but not quite old. To feel not quite well but not entirely sick. I'm interested in the space between and the undefined. The unfiltered and the raw. Hopefully these explorations can lead to a place of acceptance and stillness.
