Andrea Muñoz Martinez was born and raised in Uvalde, a rural Texas town 45 minutes from the U.S.-Mexico border and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, where her mother was born. Martinez received a Master of Fine Art in Art Studio from the University of California, Davis in 2013 and a Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011. She paints a colorful imaginary space she calls Borderlandia. Her work has been exhibited at the John Nicholas Brown Center at Brown University in Providence, RI, Cloud Tree Studios and Gallery in Austin, Texas and Artspace111 in Fort Worth, Texas. A solo exhibition of her work can currently be viewed at the Center for the Study of the Southwest in San Marcos, TX.
