Tim completed his doctorate in piano performance in 1976 and for 35 years taught undergraduate and graduate piano at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He has concertized extensively and performance venues have included the National Gallery of Art, the Phillips Collection, and Shatin Town Hall in Hong Kong. He was named Professor Emeritus in 2009.
Tim has had a deep interest in art since childhood and is in the process of donating an extensive collection of work on paper to the School of Art and Design at Texas State. He began taking art lessons eight years ago after retiring from Texas State and began doing portraiture five years ago. He has participated in shows sponsored by the Austin Pastel Society and has won top prizes from that organization three times including First Prize for Portraiture in 2017 and 2019. He has also branched out into landscape painting some of which can be seen on his website.
