When people ask about my background, I attempt to explain that I am shaped from several places geographically and culturally. As I navigated these personal experiences when I was younger, I found that I could adapt to situations using either my analytical left brain or creative right brain. For example, my left brain geeks out on good design, ordered systems, & high quality user experiences. I can easily design enterprise-level software products and, in fact, own several software UX design patents. My right brain appreciates artistic expression, whether it be through dance movement or mixing mediums on a substrate. Some of my most expansive moments of artistic connection have been as a dancer sharing the energy with live musicians on stage at large festivals and concert venues, including Lollapalooza and the Hollywood Bowl. Then there are the smaller, more intimate moments of artistic connection with people who come to my shows, follow my artistic journey online, or buy one of my pieces to hang in their home or share with a beloved. As I create within design, dance, or visual art mediums, my wish is to offer more than just a view of a piece, and instead, offer an experience of quiet peace, beauty, and self-connection.
People often mention how they love the detail, depth of layers, symbols, peacefulness, and texture in my work. At my shows, I see them moving closer and closer to a piece as they recognize that the deeper they look, the more they see. And then, that transformational moment! That moment when I see them forge an emotional connection to a piece and then turn to me with a soft smile, a moment of happiness, recognition, and a spark of excitement. This is such a beautiful connection and it's amazing to witness. There are many styles of art in the world: rough, raw, soft, mysterious, demanding, full of story, full of chaos, full of questions, full of messages, full of beauty. This can pull up a multitude of emotions in people. It is my hope that my art brings forth moments of ease, self-reflection and connection to oneself, and that these moments can be held in tandem with the daily stresses around us.
It's tough to summarize oneself in a few paragraphs and we are all evolving, every day.
