Influenced by domestic crafts and woven techniques, my work explores the disparity between fine art and craft. My paintings and sculptures mimic embroidery and textiles, disciplines which carry connotations of domesticity and femininity, but lack function as craft is wont to do. The tedious nature of these works draws parallels to that of embroidering garments by hand, or sewing together fabric squares for a quilt - all crafts that matriarchs of my own family have practiced and passed down to younger generations, myself included. My work aims to abstract these long held traditions with techniques from my own arsenal, and draw upon knowledge gleaned from fine art techniques. The result is a piece that questions its own nature as art or craft, decorative or functional, and blurs the distinction between the two.
