Being half Japanese and Sicilian, Monica explores the idea of identity, coming of age, figures and people, and the space in which we live. She is a self taught painter and is drawn to find understanding in the world around her, through her work.

My work is centered around people, nature and existence. I'm mainly drawn into this ability to form connections and bonds with animals, people and the land. My work often gives me a sense of familiarity in the unveiling of such relationships. This leads me to explore an evolving sense of identity and brings to surface the impermanence of such bonds and our existence.
