During the time I studied Medieval European History as an undergraduate, I fell in love with historical botanical images and with the history of botanical illustration as a whole. Learning the fine art of botanical illustration and discovering an incredibly talented community created a wonderful back drop for me to learn how to paint and draw. As I spent more time looking at flora, I also began to paint urban landscapes that included both plants and architecture. I have a master's degree in Counseling Psychology and found an interest in portrait painting, which bridged my desire to paint, with my fascination with people and their environments. I choose to portray plants, people and landscape with precise observation, to capture their essence and unique lines both traditionally, and more abstractly. Currently, I have been exploring abstract botanical painting and drawing and have found that abstraction and artists that were part of the Abstract Expressionist movement, very influential in my work at the moment.
